I have an interesting job opportunity in the Lausanne area. Given the troubles and delays my potential employer and I will face in order for me to secure a Work Permit, I am thinking about the "family re-unification" option, which means that I have to move to Switzerland as a dependent of my wife who does not have a job contract there. I understand that my wife, as an UE citizen, is entitled to a short resident permit 3 months renewable while looking for a job. I guess I then will be granted a Permit that allows me to work Am I right?
If YES, any idea of the processing time of the Permits? Could we use the fact that I have a job and fully support our family? I would contact the nearest consulate to you for details - I found their forms very confusing and the consulate staff to be very helpful.
If your wife has a job, it's easy peasy. You visit the consulate and obtain a 1-time entrance visa. She moves here. You both apply for Auslandercards when you register your residency at the local Kreisburo kind of like village hall, for each section of a city or each little town.
You will both then receive 5 year B permits Bern canton rep - accept job, find house in advance to start date and move family all together I now have accepted he job, am in the process of moving in and have already registered the family - but in canton Aarau. Good news is that they had no problem with doing it the same way and I was even told that I can start the job even if the permit does not arrive before my start date next Monday.
Now I'm just waiting on the permit. I was told 2 weeks to 2 months to process Correct - if she comes to Switzerland as a job seeker. If she comes as your dependant then she doesn't need that. Assumimng you had the job then this wouldn't come into play - your spouse can simply join you as a dependant and look for a job for as long as necessary. Your employer must apply for your permit. Your wife does not need to apply for a residence permit until she joins you as a dependant - for your situation this is a very simple process.
